Butterfly pleat draperies, also commonly known as empire pleat draperies, are a traditional design that lend a sophisticated touch to any room. Created by modifying a French pleat, a butterfly pleat uses two folds of fabric instead of three. The folds of fabric are pinched at the bottom, causing the top to flare open like a butterfly.
